Well, I am bribable, even more when it comes to alcohol ;). Furthermore, wine can be inspiring and make one more creative so it can’t be hard to find a story that fits the challenge. So I opened a bottle, filled the glass and tasted the wine on my balcony (see title picture).
It’s not as easy as I thought it would be, I’m always drunk in my favorite vacation memories. Just kidding, but while trying to recall an experience that fits the challenge I jumped from situation to situation and country to country in my thoughts. The first memory and picture that came to my mind was the following picture from Rome:
I like the picture because it looks like a double exposure but is only a shot of the inside of a restaurant, everything else ist a reflection in the glass front. A nice memory but not really something that would have been better with a glass of wine in my hand. I would have needed to go into the restaurant and order something. Not the right story to tell for sure, so I went on to the next memory in my head.
The second situation was in a cafe in Strasbourg. I made a picture of a girl sitting next to me in the cafe while she was lost in her thoughts:
Since I already had a glass of wine on my table another one would only have made me more drunk, nothing that would make the experience better. So this is also not the right story to tell.
I currently live in Frankfurt so I thought about the after work and rooftop parties that happen on a regular basis. When it’s getting warmer there are several locations where you can have a drink while enjoying the view over the city. One example is the following picture, taken while attending a rooftop party in the area of the central railway station.
Unfortunately Frankfurt is the place where I currently live so this doesn’t count as a vacation. Furthermore, in Frankfurt you need to drink apple cider and not real wine ;). Thinking of rooftop parties, the next thing that came to my mind was the last journey to Thailand, to be more precise, to Bangkok.
Well, that’s a memory that is close to the motto. Nice surrounding, it qualifies as a journey and a glass of wine would have been a nice addition. On the other hand I already had a cocktail on my table and a glass of wine wouldn’t have been a better alternative. Damn, why do I always need to drink alcohol during my best memories :)? Bangkok is a loud and fast city, not something that I consider a good place for a glass of wine. For wine, I need something relaxing, something quit. An atmosphere where I can allow my thoughts to fly and where I can enjoy the scene without much distraction.
So I stay in Thailand in my thoughts but I move a little more to the south, to the island of Koh Chang. I stayed with my girlfriend at a place called Lonely Beach, in a rather simple bungalow of a nice resort called Little Eden. After having some stressful days in Bangkok, this was the perfect location to calm down and enjoy a quiter place. It’s very cozy, relaxed and the hammock is the perfect place to let your thoughts drift through your mind. And yes, a glass of wine would have been the icing on the cake.
Finally – mood, location and even the name Little Eden make this a situation, that would have been perfect with a glass of wine. Furthermore, nice company makes it even more enjoyable. It seems I found the perfect location and the end of my virtual journey. As often in life, the journey is it’s own reward, like this “journey in a bottle”.
